Auckland, October 27th, 1896. To the Proprietors, Sporting Review, Auckland. Dear Sirs, —I have pleasure in advising you that the Sporting Review has been appointed the Official Organ of the Auckland Cycle Club. Yours faithfully, J. P, HOWDEN, Sports Secretary.

THE CYCLING CLUB’S CARNIVAL.

On Saturday the Auckland Cycling Club will hold their carnival at the Domain Cricket Ground, the net funds of which, as previously mentioned, will be devoted to renovating the pivilion of the ground. With fine weather a large attendance may be looked, forward to, and as the- wheel events will be contested by some of the most prominent cash riders in the colony, the racing should be of a high order, and decidedly fast and interesting ; in fact some grass records should be established, seeing that there will be pacing triplets and tandems. The pedestrian portion of the programme is also of an attractive character, and several very prominent visiting runners will make their appearance. Amongst the most notable competitors will be T. Clarkson, A. R. Barker. C. Cattanach, A. C. Wilmott, and W. Thomson. In the Five Mile Inter-provincial Scratch Race nearly all the outside cyclists will compete. The Auckland Wheel Race should be an interesting event The prize money is £27 10s, and with the first prize of £l5 is given a five-guinea cup. During the afternoon F. A lady cyclist in knickerbockers was riding in the neighbourhood of Wareham. She lost her way, and seeing a countryman in front, rode up to him, alighted, and said, “ Can you tell me if this is the right way to Wareham ?” The man looked up and down at her with great attention, and then slowly replied, “Yes. miss—yes. You seem to have got ’em on all right.”
