Riccarton training notes—Fabulist gallops well—Euroclydon, Lady Zetland, Quiltiri, and The Shrew performing well—The uncertain Daystar—A busy week. Christchurch, October 31. At Riccarton this morning three prominent New Zealand Cup candidates were out. Fabulist, Day Star, and Black and Red galloped a mile .and a half on the sand. The pace made was strong throughout. Fabulist finished ten lengths ahead of Black and Red, who was half a length in front of Day Star. The time was 2min 43sec. The gallop was an exceedingly good one. Fabulist is very fit, and has undergone a better preparation than any other horse engaged in the Cup. Day Star pulled up sound. Quiltiri galloped a mile and a half in 2min 41sec. Lady Zetland also went well in a gallop over the same distance. Lotion is not showing good form. Acone and St. Laura look really well. November 3. This morning some capital work was done. Dalliance and Montacute ran a mile and a quarter in 2min 21sec, Bisley ran a mile alone in lmin 47|sec. Quiltiri, who is now looking really well, galloped a mile and a quarter in 2min 17sec, the last half mile taking 52gaec. Fabulist galloped the Cup distance with his weight up. Mahaki ran the first mile and a quarter with him, and Rustic accompanied him the last six furlongs. The last mile and a half took 2min 45|sec. Fabulist maintained a good even pace all through, and pulled up quite sound. Acone and Armilia* finished together in a gallop over six furlongs, which were covered in lmin 20sec. Defiance led Pompom over a mile and a quarter, which took 2m.in 18sec, the last mile being cut out in lmin 50sec. Voltigeur, who also started, finished two lengths behind Pompom. Defiance had the pull in the weights. Marquis of Zetland easily beat Bizarre over six furlongs. St. Laura and Skirmisher galloped the same distance, finishing together in lmin 20|sec. Solitaire, Daredevil, and Dauntless, galloped six furlongs finishing in line, the time being lmin 20sec. Lady Zetland beat Lord Roslyn and Diack and Red in a gallop

-over a mileand ahalf, run in2njin 44sec. Lady Zetland finished strongly.- Euroclydon galloped two miles and a half with neck sweaters on, the last mile and a. half taking 2min. The Shrew accompanied Euroclydon .the last mile and a half, and'finished better than the Oup favourite The best gallops of the morning were done by •Quiltiri, Fabulist, Lady Zetland, and Euroclydon Man-o’-War was scratched at 3.30 p.m. to-day Jotall engagements at the C.J.C. Meeting. Ngatuere, King’s Bowman, and Osmanie arrived to-day. The report that Day Star will not start for the Cup lacks confirmation. The colt was backed for several hundreds on Monday, and this morning Gallagher, who has been retained to ride him, was doing walking exercise to reduce his weight. If Fabulist does not win the Cup I think he •will annex the Metropolitan Handicap. He has been doing splendid work, and seems to finish strongly at the end of a mile and a half. jRBMr Stead’s horses have not been seen out at Ricearton much this week. They are, however, looking in splendid condition, Epauelet especially so. Gold Medalist and Multiform have gained many admirers. heard a rumour to-day that The Possible, Bellicent, and Epaulet were tried over the Cup • distance, and that the first named beat his opponents. There will be racing at Christchurch every day next week. On Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday the C.J.C. Meeting will' be held. On Tuesday and Friday the Lancaster Park Trotting Club’s Meeting will take place, and on Thursday the Plumpton Park Trotting Club’s Meeting will be held.
