BOWLING.

The bowling season was opened on Saturday. The Newmarket ground was found to be in excellent condition, and was gaily decorated with flags. The opening ceremony was performed by Mr Laxon in a few well-chosen remarks, and a match was then played between sides chosen by the president and vice-president. Thirty-two players participated in a very pleasant game, which resulted in a victory for the president’s side by 33 points. On the Parnell green there was a good muster, and forty bowlers took part in the president v. vice-president’s match. The play was pretty close and resulted eventually in a victory for the vice-president’s side by 14 points. Afternoon tea dispensed by ladies added to the pleasure of the occasion.
