GOLF

[By

Cleek.]

The monthly cleek was played last Saturday, and the links were in good order, but the pulling greens were not so good as usual. There were only six entries, owing, no doubt, to the counter attraction of the Otago football match, and also to the fact that the majority of the players who have not registered one win have given* up all hopes of annexing the trophy. Although so few entered for the match on Saturday the finish was very close. Mr Coibeck won with the score of 102, Rev. Beatty next, 104, and Mr Gillies third with 105. Mr Gillies has three wins to his credit, Rev. Beatty, and Messrs O’Rorke, Kyd, and Coibeck two each. The cleek has to be won four times in all before coming the property of any player. The competition has been going on for nearly two years now, and in all probability it will take another six months before a final result is arrived at.
