AQUATICS.
The sculling match between Towns and Neilsen was rowed at Newcastle (New South Wales) last week. Neilsen led by a length for a couple of miles, but then the pace, which had been a cracker, broke him up, and he ceased rowing, allowing Towns to row home at his leisure. The three miles were covered in 19min 45sec.
Harding had one of the lightest racing boats in the world, made for him by Clasper, of Putney, for his sculling match with Stanbury. The diminutive craft measured 30ft, breadth 9in, and when fully equipped for racing, with outriggers and sliding seat complete, weighed 181bs.
