AUCKLAND COURSING.

Saturday’s coursing brought the Auckland 1896 coursing season to a close. The weather was fine, and the attendance numbered about 500. Great interest was manifested in the Shylock—-Luck’s All course, but it ended in a one-sided contest, Shylock winning all the way. Luck’s All did not show the same dash as when he was here last, and prevented the £6OO to £2OO wager coming off against Mr W. Profitt. There were two courses during the afterno >n that the public did not agree with the judge. The hares were in great nick on Saturday, and only one was killed. The following are the concluding courses, the first round of the Collar and Recovery Stakes having appeared in our last issue: — Champion Collar. Winner, £25 and Silver Collar ; runner-up, £6 10s, and two dogs at £3 each. SECOND ROUND. Caulfield and Melbourne Cups had a run at the V.A.T.C. meeting at Caulfield on the 15th ult. In the Victorian Club Handican, of one mile. Excel (7.11, by Albury son of Yaftendon) beat Marusa (8.10) by half a head in Imin 45sec Devon, Culzean, and Lord Richmond were amongst the number that started. It is said that Marusa got bumped coming round the turn. However, it is claimed that the brother to Malvolio is not near ready in his preparation, and if that is so a 1.45 gallop for a mile nearly t/wo months before the two cups is irideed very useful. In the Caulfield Cup Marusa is handicapped at 8.3, and Excel has 6.12, or thirteen pounds less to.carry than he had in the race under notice. At the Fame meeting Larrikin (12.8, Jack Cameron) won the steeplechase. so that his Caulfield Grand Nat’onal was no fluke;
