Quiz (Ellerslie). —There is no written race law as to when the racing season commences, and we do not see sufficient reason for altering our opinion that the racing season in each year commences on September Ist. Rule 39 of the Rules of Racing says :—“ At any meeting held on any datefrom the 31st of May to the Ist September, the lowest weight in any race on the flat shall not be less than lOst.” That surely constitutes a close flit racing season of three months. How can you argue that the flat racing season starts on August Ist, simply because horses are a year older on that day, and when the majority of horses cannot run owing to the prohibitive lOst minimum I
