At the Dunedin races the Winter Trot was won by H. Groodman’s bay gelding Charlie, 26sec (J. Allan), Minnie Grey, 39sec, second. Also started —Colonel, scratch (coupled with Telephone), Gordon, Jimmy, Little Fame, and Tickler. Tickler won this race by a length from Charlie, but a protest against the winner for galloping in the first round, and for inconsistent running was sustained and the race awarded to Charlie. Time, smin 35sec. Dividends, £4 13s. and £3 4s. Mr McEwan, of Dunedin, has sold Jack for 21 guineas to Mr Hugh Craig, also Colonel (who is said to be a fast horse) at a satisfactory figure.
