HUNTING.
The Waikato Hunt Club’s first meet of the season was to have taken placeyesterday at the Kennels, Bruntwood. HAWKE’S BAY. Last Saturday (writes our correspondent) the Hawke’s Bay hounds met at Mr Gr. L. Sunderland’s residence, Wangateretere, and there were fully a hundred present when the hounds threw off. The drag was laid over about seven miles of fair hunting country. The first fence was a very ugly customer, with a big ditch on the off-side, and it was the meana of bringing several of the followers to Mother Earth, but happily no one was hurt. Amongst those following I noticed Mrs G. P. Donnelly on The Master, Miss Ormond on Forty Winks, Mrs Sunderland on Moa, Miss Donnelly on Bay Tom, Miss Gilpin on Havelock, Messrs Gr. L. Sunderland (deputy-mas-ter), on Totorua, H. Jackson (huntsman) on Repo, Gr. Amundensen (whip) on Revenge, Ted. Gilpin on Cretonne, H. Russell on a bay, D. Evans on Sunbeam, L. Cottle, G. Hope, and Sam. Lindsay on mounts whose names I could not ascertain, Peters on Kaiwai, M Edwards on Tommy Dodd, Shand on Lighthouse, T. Page on Fhkurangi, A. Deane on Coastguard, and Tanner, junr., on Alma. At the conclusion of the run, Mr and Mrs* G. L. Sunderland dispensed refreshments in their usual hospitable manner, and needless to say that they were doneample justice to by the votaries of Diana.
