SPORTING REVIEW COUPON. THE AUCKLAND EASTER TREBLE. Easter Handicap. Autumn Handicap, and Steeplechase. Mr W. S. DICKEY the SUCCESSFUL TIPSTER. When Mr W. S. Dickey, of Union St., Auckland, filled up his coupon for our Easter treble coupon, with the names Acone, Fabulist, and Carbuncle, which on arrival at our office was marked No. 421, he probably little thought how true his prophecy was likely to turn out, but he was dead on the mark, and we congratulate him upon his success. However, Mr Dickey had a number of rivals who got all round that coupon, but they were not as fortunate as he in selecting Carbuncle for the Steeplechase. Seventytwo of our readers picked Acone for the Easter Handicap, and nine of the seventytwo picked Fabulist for the Autumn Handicap coupled with Acone, but only one (Mr Dickey) finished up with Carbuncle for the Autumn Steeplechase. To show what chance the proprietors had of escaping being struck with Acone and Fabulist picked nine times, six of these nine tipsters finished up with Bombardier, who was second, in the steeples, and one had Scaltheen, who ran third, and another Malabar, who was scratched. That sort of “ tipping,” although taken from 704 coupons sent in, shows that trebles can be picked the same as doubles, if there are enough backers, i.e., tipsters. Strange to say, if Folly had won the Autumn Handicap, the proprietors would have had a “ skinner,” for the reason that Folly was not picked with Carbuncle. And that Autumn Handicap was a very near thing for Fabulist; and he had all his work cut out to beat Mr Muir’s mare. The fac simile of Mr Dickey’s signature on the receipt for the £2O which he won, will also be found in this issue. The successful coupon, No. 421, is also on view in Mr Williamson’s tobacconist shop window in Queen-street. This week we have another treble for our readers, which will be found in the usual place. When the nominations are received for the New Zealand Cup we will announce a £5O Treble Coupon — New Zealand, Melbourne; and Caulfield Cups
