AUCKLAND RACING CLUB’S EASTER MEETING

The unpleasant duty of trying to divine the likely, or absolute winners, at the above meeting, has devolved upon me this week. I feel somewhat loth to accept the responsibility, especially for the minor events at the meeting, as there are a large number of horses engaged in these events that I have not had the chance of running my eye over yet. One is materially assisted in trying to pick winners by knowing the conformation and particular style of galloping of the various horses, and absence of this knowledge makes one careful like. However, the task must be undertaken, and life is too short to give a long commentary on the chance of each of the acceptors. If I knew as much as George "Wright in connection with the probable results at the meeting, I would not have much trouble in coming to, I think, a satisfactory conclusion. My selections for the first day’s racing—Easter Monday, are as follows :— Tradesman’s Piute—St. Lauba. Champagne Stakes —Arm ill A. Easter Handicap—Anita. Hurdle Race —Donald McKinnon. Eden Handicap—Fobma. Onslow Stakes —Admiral Hawke or Nestoe. Pony Handicap—Leona. Railway Handicap— Weight’s Best.
