CHRISTCHURCH. Notes from Riccarton —Au Revoir dotty—the Amuri Turf Club Meeting.

[by

WIRE.]

March 24.

Skirmisher is doing good work at Riccarton as also is Barnardo, Lord of Misrule, St. John, Main stay, Hero, Golden Fleece, Mona, Fire King, Nirvina, Gillie, and Clarence. Au Revoir pulls up lame after almost every gallop but comes up smiling next day. Vogengang is at light work. Barnardo and Gillie are both jumping well.

Balquiver is again at Riccarton. Spurned is to be thrown out of work as also is Little Jack. Regret is generally expressed at Mr Stead’s inintention to sell the whole of his racing stock. Magazine is on his way to Christchurch from the coast where he was only fairly successful.

The nominations for South Canterbury meeting are good, and the same may be said in connection with the Ashburton Club and Lancaster Park Trotting Club. The Amuri Turf Club’s meeting on Friday last was the most successful ever held by the Club. Splendid weather favoured a large atttendance, and almost double the amount of money was put through the reaper and binder compared with last year. Results : —Handicap H urdle Race, Mainstay 1, Black Jack 2, Spurned 3, won easily, dividend £3 65.; Amuri Cup, Mona by Hornby — Lady Eva, 1, Silver Spec 2, Jewel 3, won by a

length, dividend £4. A protest for boring entered against Mona was dismissed; Leslie Plate, Salvo Shot, by Chainshot—Rose Padlock, 2, Undesirable Bill 3, won in a canter, dividend £1 14s. This race was for the progeny of Chainshot and Alma. Cuiverden Handicap, Alcestis, Master George— Pysehe, 1, Leo 2, Nirvana 3, won with a bit to spare, dividend £7 Bs. District Handicap, Mona 1, Comet 2, Jewel 3, dividend £1 13s. Lord of Misrule went to the post, but after throwing his jockey M’Calley, who was badly shaken, went several miles across country. Lady Zetland passed through on the road to Ashburton. Belle Claire has arrived at Riccarton. Twenty-one have accepted for the Great Easter Handicap and 15 for the Great Autumn. At present I fancy Bloodshot, Solitaire, and Golden Fleece for the short race and Lady Zetland and Skirmisher for the Autumn. As usual Mr Stead holds a strong hand both in the Champion and Challenge Stakes. The other nominations are fairly good.
