Our Illustrations.
With this issue we give six plates illustrating the Messrs. Alison Bros.’ Motu-Korea Stud. Four yearlings are reproduced, together with a colt foal from Tamora, and the St. Leger horse, Regel, who now acts as sire of the island stud. As will be seen from the photos., Regel’s youngsters are of a most promising nature, and show that in his first venture at stud work he has not belied the great blood running in his veins. The yearlings represented are colts from Friendship and Tamora (by Regel), one by Cuirassier — Jessie, and a filly by Nelson from Phantom. Yearlings are difficult subjects for a photographer to handle, but we think our artist has done the youngsters justice. On page 5 of this number is an appropriate photo, (taken on the builders’ slip) of Messrs. W. and F. Wilsons’ yacht, the 5-rater Moana, winner of the race from 4 to 7 rating at Ponsonby Regatta on Saturday last. As will be seen, she has long, racey-looking lines, and judging by the way she sneaked through the water in her maiden effort on Saturday, her looks do not belie her. She is rigged with mainsail and two headsails, has a bulb keel, and her roomy deck is fitted with Indian teak. All her fore and aft planking is in one length, deck included. A splendid finish has been given her —in fact, the wellknown Logan finish. Moana was built by Logan Bros., and designed as a racing cruiser, with good room and accommodation below. Her dimensions are :—Length over all, 46ft Sin ; water-line, 31ft. ; beam, 9ft.; draught, 7ft. On the same page is a picture of the officials of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Club.
