An excellent picture of Mr Frank Gibbon’s steeplechase horse, Seddon (winner of the Rangitikei Hunt Club Cup and Ladies’Bracelet Steeplechase at the Marton Spring Meeting) appears this week, with Mr Gibbons in the saddle, and Mr J. Hathaway, who trained Seddon for his recent victories, standing at the horse’s head. Since Seddon (who was purchased for about £2O) became the property of Mr Frank Gibbons (eldest son of Mine Host of the White Hart Hotel, Marton) he has performed very consistently. His first win with the son of Premier was at Wanganui last October in the Hunter’s Hurdles, when trained by Mi* Tom Cameron. Before the Marton Spring Meeting Seddon won the Rangitikei Hunt Club’s Point to Point Steeplechase, following this up by his splendid performance of carrying 13.2 to victory over two miles of the York Farm steeplechase course. It is worthy of note that Mr F. Gibbons has ridden, his horse each time he has started with but one exception, which proves that he is in the first rank of gentlemen riders. The victories of Seddon at the Marton Meeting were very popular, and owner and horse were loudly cheered after each race. Mr Martin Taylor’s well-known bitch, Lizzie Godfrey (Brewer —Deception) will be remainbered as having annexed the Bracelet Stake at our June gathering. A full sister to Bess Morley, she should prove a good ’un, and her present performances, nine courses of eleven, go to show that Lizzie Godfrey will make a name for herself on the Plumpton. Two Hunt Club pictures accompany this issue. Miss Dunnet who is a regular follower of the P.H.C. Harriers is shown on her grey hunter Roger. The Woolbroker gelding Jimmy forms the subject of the second picture. Jimmy, whois the property of Mr H. T Gorrie, ran very respectably at the recent A.R.C. First Spring Meeting, carrying his owner’s colours into second position in the Hunt Club Steeplechase. One of the horse’s best runs was accomplished at the last Avondale J.C. Spring Meeting, when he passed the Maiden Steeplechase winning post ahead of his field, but was disqualified for going inside two posts.
