SALES OF TROTTING STOCK.

If the breeders of thoroughbred racing stock have reason to be dissatisfied with the state of the market, the gentlemen who came from the Australian side with standard bred trotting stock are in an •even worse plight. Tneir animals were sold at very low rates indeed, showing that Auckland is not quite a paradise for the vendor of trotting stock Perhaps it is that the trotters sold last year have not realised the expectations of their purchasers. Whatever the cause may be, the market was flat, stale, and unprofitable ; and Mr S Hordern should be in no hurry to again send a draft to our shores. Last year the fifteen fillies and gelding submitted realised 607 guineas ; this year a similar number brought a total of 242 guineas. Mr Palfrey only -disposed of two of his consignment at auction, but Pita and Colonel, who were reserved at 150 guineas and 100 guineas respectively, were sold afterwards to Mr ■J. McKewan, a Dunedin owner of trotters. Mr W. H. Dean received 85 guineas fur his five geldings, and if he -comes again next year he will certainly be plucky.
