“THE NEW BOY”
Messrs. Williaxnson and Musgrove’s latest 'novelty, “ The New Boy,” was introduced to an Auckland audience at the Opera House last Wednesday night and proved an immense success. Long before eight o’clock not a vacant seat was to be found, and in fact hundreds were unable to •obtain admisssion, so great was the fame that had preceded the arrival of Arthur Laws’ excessively funnv comedy. From the rise of the •curtain do the close of the performance peals of laughter rang forth from all parts of the house. Not a serious face could be discovered among the largest audience over assembled within those walls. Our old friend Miss J. Watt-Tanner looked and played the part of Mrs Rennick admirably. Too much praise could not be bestowed on Mr Ralph Roberts for his impersonation of the “ New Boy.” He kept the audience in one continual uproar, and Mr Bernage’s representation <of Dr Candy was dignified and showed careful study. Miss Edith Housley, as Nancy Roach, •acquitted herself creditably, and had to respond to an encore for her rendering of. “ The Little, Alabama Coon.” The other characters were ade■quately represented, especially that of Felix Roach by Mr A. 0. Alderson. No one should fail to see “ The New Boy,” and as the piece can only be staged till Monday night it would be as well to book seats early; in order to prevent disappointment. On Monday a special double "bill, “ The Foundling ” and “Jones,” will be produced.
