WELLINGTON JOTTINGS.

| By

Proteus.]

[by wire.] September 18. Walter Bentley’s company has just concluded a very successful season, The Silence of Dean Maitland being a particularly well produced piece. Tne public showed their appreciation of the drama by overflowing the Opera House every evening it was staged. Nos Intimes preceded the clerical drama and met with a cordial reception. Although Madame Belle Cole failed somewhat badly when in Wellington, the Newbury-Spada Company have no reason to complain of the patronage extended to them, for the Theatre Boyal seating accommodation has been taxed to its utmost right through the season, many people being unable to gain admittance. On Tuesday last I had the luck to obtain a seat, and was greatly impressed with the ability of the company. The audience were of the same mind, as every item on the programme was re-demanded. The solo pianiste, Miss Lottie Aldred, although but a child of 14 years, has acquitted herself remarkably well during the season. The company are detained in Wellington through Mr Newbury taking ill with sciatica.

I have received from Mr P. Levi, the obliging secretary of the Amateur Operatic Society, the caste for The Mikado, which the Society intend playing next Wednesday night. It is as follows’; —Mikado, Mr W. Ross; Nanki Poo, Mr G. H. Munt; Koko, Mr D. Lyon; Poo Bah, Mr Geo. Parsons; Pish Tush, Mr A. E. Mabin ; Katisha, Miss J. Newton ; Yum Yum, Miss H. J. Miller ; Pitti Sing, Miss Curtis; Peep 80, Miss Hand. The scenery has been painted by Mi - Allan in an able manner, and the conductor’s baton will be in the hand of Mr T. Trimmell.
