Messrs Baker and Co.’s Somnus—Peeress mare, Patience, has produced a filly foal to Lochnagar and visits him again. Wairuareka, by The Painter—Mystery Girl, is expected to foal in a day or two to Somnus and is booked to visit him again. Wairuareka is the dam of Wairua, Tiritea and Rangiatea. Nina, by Feve—Sunbeam, is also booked to Somnus, and Lady Artist, by The Painter —Mystery Girl, visits Rangatira. Carbine’s full sister, Lady Walmsley, has foaled an all brown colt to Castor at Wellington Park, and Maid of Athol has produced a brown colt with a white face to Cuirassier at the same breeding establishment, while Welcome Katie has presented Castor with a brown filly.

Sydney Bulletin writes :— “ Sheet Anchor’s son Capstan was heavily backed by the public last week at Aspendale Park, and lost; he ran unbacked at Maribyrnong, and won easily; and was again hardly touched at Moonee Valley, and once more won comfortably. He ran very green, but covered the five furlongs in 62 secs, which signifies that the party which has made him first favourite for the Caulfield Cup is—providing he keeps well—making no mistake.”
