Next month, the Turf Parliament will assemble, and the wish will be general that good may reSult from the deliberations of the delegates. There is plenty of scope for their labour, and by the time the members of the Conference rise for the last time from their chairs many blots which at present exist in the Rules of Racing should be permanently eradicated. Mr E. W. Alison, who will represent the Northern country and suburban clubs at the Conference, has commenced to give serious attention to the business before him, and has already given notice of his intention to move in the following direction : — 1. That the following alterations be made in Rule 22 re added money per diem in stakes :— Clause V.—That the words four hundred pounds be substituted for five hundred pounds. Clause Vl.—That the words two hundred pounds be substituted for three hundred pounds. Clause Vll.—That the words one hundred pounds be substituted for one hundred and fifty pounds. 2. That Rule 39 be altered to read as follows :— ' At any meeting held on any date from the 31st of May to the Ist September the lowest weight in any race on the flat shall not be less than 9st. s That the following new Rules be adopted;— 3. That no nomination or acceptance shall be void in consequence of telegraphic interruption, provided that such nomination or acceptance shall be proved to have been lodged at any telegraphic station one hour before the advertised time of closing of such nominations or acceptances. 4. That all moneys received by Metropolitan Clubs for penalties, fines, and riding licenses shall be placed to the credit of a “ Distressed Jockeys Fund.” 5. That all moneys received by Metropolitan Clubs for trainers’ licenses shall be placed to the credit of a “ Distressed Trainers Fund.” 6. That all moneys placed to the credit of a Distressed Jockeys’ Fund or a Distressed Trainers’ Fund shall be annually accounted for by the Metropolitan Clubs, and a printed statement showing the receipts and expenditure and investments of all moneys shall be submitted at the annual meetings of such clubs. 7. That in the event of any horse being accidentally disabled after being weighed out, or before being taken in hand by the starter, such horse shall be deemed a non-starter. 8. No horse shall be barred on the totalisator. 9. That all meetings of Conferences be open to the Press.
