WELLINGTON JOTTINGS.

I By

Proteus.

‘ March 27. , The Wellington Cycling and Harriers ; Clubs held sports last Saturday on the Basin Reserve. The attendance of the public must have numbered 4000, and considerable interest was manifested in the proceedings, which were of a pleasing nature. Strict punctuality was observed and rigorously enforced in the matter of starting the events. Morpeth, the champion mile and three mile ruuner, had hard luck in not getting a place in the Mile Flat, but even experienced runners now and again misjudge their powers, which I think must have been the case with Morpeth, as he did not seem to pass his men well. In fact his wild steering resulted in his being spiked. He, how-, ever, won the Two Mile Flat. Hempton again established his superiority over 220 Yards, winning comfortably. The Five Mile Provincial Bicycle Championship was carried off by Muir, who rode prettily and well, beating the field in brilliant style. The times for the various events were not phenomenal, but must be considered fair in the face of the strong wind that was blowing. Appended are the results of the events One Mile Bicycle Open Handicap.— • L. A. Herbert, 20yds, 1 ; W. Chegwidden, scratch, 2 ; W. D. Avery, 70yds, 3. Also competed, A. H. Hunt, scr; E. F.
