WELLINGTON RACING CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING.

The nominations received by the Wellington Raring Club for their combined Autumn and Steeplechase Meeting,, to be held on May 2nd and 3rd, are very satisfactory and promise well for the success of the gating. For the principal flat event, the Thompson Handicap of

225SOVS, one mile, forty-eight entries have been received, and the Northern, Southern and coastal owners are all well represented. In this race Auckland is represented by Lebel, St. Clements, Lottie and Eve, and amongst the racers from the South are Rebellion, Au Revoir, Reflector, Saracen and Aidershot. There are many strong milers entered, and in the event of a good handicap being made a fine race should result. The leading attraction in the jumping events will be the Wellington Steeplechase Handicap of 225SOVS, three miles, and for this race twenty-four names have been handed in, only one of which, Omata, hails from Auckland. The fine field of forty appears in connection with the Autumn Handicap of 115SOVS, one mile and three furlongs, and as in the case of the Thompson Handicap the list includes the names of all the prominent owners of both islands. The Railway Handicap, of 6osovs, threequarters of a mile, has 28 entries ; the First Hurdle Handicap of roosovs, two miles, has 25 ; the second Hurdle Handicap of Bosovs, one mile and threequarters, has 21 ; the Hunters’ Steeplechase Handicap of 50S0VS, two and a half miles, has 13; the Stewards’ Handicap of yosovs, seven furlongs, has 33 ; the Trial Steeplechase Handicap of 70S0VS, two miles, has 17 , and the Electric Handicap of 6osovs, five furlongs, has 34. The weights for the first day’s events and the Trial and Wellington Steeplechases will be declared on the 17th inst., and acceptances are due on the 25th inst.
