Disqualification of Tim Swiveller.

The victory of Tim Swiveller in the Caulfield Cup camp as a surprise, but the news of his disqualification came as a thunderclap. This will be a blow for the books 1 Defeat is always bitter, but when the cup of victory is suddenly snatched from ones lips, the sting becomes intensified. Had the win of Sainfoin come direct on Saturday the disappointment to the pencillers would not have been so keen, but since the news of Tim Swiveller’s victory reached them, they have had four days to hug the delusive joy to their breasts, and the sweetness of Saturday’s news becomes a bitter sweet indeed. Tim Swiveller’s win was an absolute skinner for the Ring, but his disqualification turns the tables with a vengeance, for Sainfoin was written to a fair extent in the books in straight out and double betting. It is in connection with the latter wagering that the cut will be felt so keenly, for Sainfoin was picked in company with very dangerous Melbourne Cup candidates, and unless another Glenloth comes to the front in the big V.R.C. event the books will have to hand over the shekels to a pretty tune. This will be particularity so on the Australian side, for Sainfoin and good Melbourne Cup horses was a favourite double when the double books were opened. What makes the rub a harder one for the ring is the fact that several of its members have been glorifying the advent of the alleged skinner by the cracking of sundry bottles of gold top with their unlucky (?) clients ! The latter should certainty solace the bookies in turn. The information of the disqualification reached us late last night in the following cable :— “ Swiveller disqualified, Sanfoin awarded race.”
