Coursing.
The Waihora, which arrived on Monday last from Melbourne, brought Mr 0. 0. Gordons’ newly-purchased stud grey hound Port Phillip. The same vessel brought back his smart little bitch Spruce, who has been on a visit to Australia. As regards Mr Gordon’s new purchase Port Phillip he is certainly a splendid - looking greyhound, and his arrival in New Zealand shoud prove of benefit to followers of the leash. He should commend himself to breeders, as he is a complete change to the blood at present in New Zealand. The quality of the blood may be judged by a glance at his pedigree, which shows him to be the most highly-bred dog in New Zealand. Port Phillip weighs 721 b, and is by Rent Charge —Pleasant Girl, Market Day— Wilful Widow, Dionysius. O’Kane— Wee Cash. Port Phillip will be located at the kennells of Mr T. Macready, Epsom. The Carrie question has been settled after careful consideration on the part of the Auckland Coursing Club. The committee met on Tuesday last, and decided to award Kotero, Mr Blaikie’s representative. the second prize, and to divide the first prize amongst the five dogs which met Carrie. The club also decided that wagers should follow the division of the stakes, viz., a fifth on each of the five dogs awarded a portion of the prize monev.
Mr W. J. Caverhill’s blk and w b Poor Thing visited Mr Griffiths’ Caradoc on 23rd September. We would remind greyhound owners that the first instalment of ss. will have to be paid on or before the 27th inst. for nominations in connection with the Auckland Challenge Stakes, to be run in June next, 1894. Intending nominators would do well to nominate early and make certain of being represented in this valuable stake.
