ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS.
W.B. (Te Puke). —Thanks for pointing out the mistake, but our Napier correspondent, in his letter in our last issue, clearly explained how it was made. “Tug” (Ellerslie). —St. Hippo is by the same sire as the colt’s sire is sired by, and out of the same dam. Breeders of blood stock generally reckon their relationship through the dam and not through the sire, and therefore, for all Stud Book purposes, the colt recently foaled is a half-brother to St. Hippo. Bootmaker (Auckland). — Fishmonger has won a Steeplechase at Avondale, and therefore you win your wager. It was not at the Avondale Jockey Club’s Meeting, but at that of the Henderson’s Mill Turf Club held on the Avondale course on March 17th, 1891. He carried 10.7, and beat Hopeful Kate, 10.4, a neck, the other starters being Nap, Begorrah, General, and Moderator.
