Auckland Trotting Club.
This deserving and popular body “bring off” their Summer campaign on Tuesday, 27th, and Saturday, 31st inst., at Potter’s Paddock. They “ open fire ” on Tuesday next with an “ army ’’ of entrants that is positively “staggering.” Without doubt they deserve all they have got for their pluck and foresight in publishing a “ bill of fare ”s such as that which now lies
before me. There only remains now one thing necessary to “crown the success ” of the whole proceeding, and that is for Mr Halstead to prepare a careful and satisfactory handicap for the second day —of such a nature, in fact, that we clever tipsters will be quite unable to grapple with or get any way near it. Ido believe the racing public appreciate a good handicap finish equally as well as taking the tip and striking the winner. But to work. With such a lengthy programme the whys and wherefores can readily be discarded, and I shall simply state that I have carefully considered them all, and have come to the conclusion that the events will result very nearly like this: — Maiden Trot, 2 miles. —Pikie, 1 ; Laddie, 2 ; Major, 3. Maiden Pony, 6 furlongs. —Salvator or Rakau; 1 ; Desmond, 2; Sepoy, 3 Auckland Trotting Cup, 3 miles. — Fairy or Ike, 1 ; Clyde, 2 ; Martha, 3. Pony Cup Handicap, 1 mile. —Lady May or Vampire, 1 ; Sepoy, 2 ; Rodney, 3. Pony Trot, 2 miles. — Maud S., 1 ; Pegyy or Ike, 2; Sailor Boy 11., 3. Glasgow Harness Trot, 2£ miles. — Charlie or Sparrowhawk, 1 ; Clyde, 2 ; Mount, 3. Pony Hurdles, miles. —Reuben, 1 ; Pica, 2 ; Minnie Grey, 3. Electric Trot, 1 mile. —Clyde or Yum Yum, 1 ; Midnight, 2. Christmas Handicap, 5 furlongs.— Sepoy, 1 ; Robin, 2; Circus Girl, 3.
