The game yesterday ended in a signal victory for Canterbury, who displayed disipline, combination, and training. Auckland’s rather weak team played desperately, but the fine passing of Canterbury proved irresistible. Some 5000 spectators thoroughly enjoyed quite the best display of scientific football since the Englishmen visited Auckland. .No one expected such a severe drubbing, although many knowing judges expected our boys to sustain a defeat. But 25 points to nothing is a terrible take down and will do us a lot of good Auckland won the toss and played with a cross wind slightly in their favour, but taking all circumstances into consideration, better or more equal football conditions could not be desired. At 3.30 Evans set the ball rolling with side kick, and at 3.27, after a grand passing run, Canterbury scored first blood. Balch did not improve. At 4.5 a splendid piece of p jSsing erded in Johnson getting in and Balch placed a goal. Canterbury 7, Auckland 0. No further score in first spell. Auckland kicked off at 4.24, and at 4 27 another fine passing run ended in another try. Balch at a difficult angle made a fine shot, the ball striking the goal-post. Canterbury 9, Auckland 0. At 4.43 Evans, after some splendid passing, got in and Balch placed a goal. Canterbury 14, Auckland 0. At 457 Balch kicked a goal from a mark. Canterbury 18, Auckland 0. More good passing enabled Evans to score, but Garrard did not improve. Canterbury 20, Auckland 0, at 5 p.m. Four minutes later some grand passing enabled Johnstone to score, but Balch did not convert. Canterbury 22, Auckland 0. At 5.13 Balch placed a fine goal from a free kick, raising the total to Canterbury 25, Auckland 0. No alteration in the scores when time was called.
