The popular Christchurch medico who has raced under the name of Mr. “ H. Horsford,” sold out of his farm at Russley, near Christchurch (formerly the property of Mr. Stead), last week, but though he had some thoroughbreds to offer the only one quitted wasthe Witch by Hornby, out of The Peer—Crumbs mare Nourmahal, who realised £ll ss. The Grand National Steeplechase winner will again take up stud life in Canterbury this season. With Chain Shot and him as stallions, Mr. Duncan Rutherford has a good pair. I have seen several youngsters sired by Chain Shot and foaled last season, being therefore the first of his progeny, and I can say that they are one and ajjg a credit to him. But nothing I have down South as youngsters can for all round good points compare with Lochiel’s. Verily, the exportation the son of Prince Charlie and national loss to New breeding.
