OUR WANGANUI LETTER.

(from our own correspondent.) A.lick McCormick has had to turn two of his charges out, viz.: Cheque and Hillarian, by Somnus. Cheque had only been taken up about five months back, and he was beginning to show some of his old form when his old ailment again troubled him, causing him to again retire to the paddock. Prestige, Dudu’s half brother, showed what a real good little horse he is by winning the T.J.C. Handicap, as the mile and a half was run in the fast time of zmin. 39 2-ssec. Prestige was greatly fancied by a large number of sports here, who forwarded their usual £ 1 for the totalizator. McCormick had him in first-class order, and was very sanguine about his chance. [By Wire.] Prestige, winner of three races at Taranaki, has been purchased by Mr. Syson, ofTurakina, for the sum of The horse will still remain in McCormick's hands to undergo his preparations for future engagements. R. Wheeler has just taken in hand a couple of youngsters, viz , a two-year-old colt by Somnus — Foam. This youngster is rather small, and seems to have none the best of knees to stand a thorough preparation for a severe race. The other young one is a two-year-old chestnut gelding by Puriri, dam Star Water, half-sister to Recluse, by Premier — Voltarina. He is a fine muscular - looking youngster greatly resembling his sire, with plenty of power behind, showing splendid gaskins. If he does not turn out to be a firstclass galloper I shall be greatly mistaken, as I greatly prefer him of the two. Wheeler, I hear, is also likely to have one or two more classical colts in hand shortly, and I shall expect to see his stable strongly represented at the commencement of next session, and I heartily wish Wheeler plenty of luck, as although he was offered a good billet on the Wairarapa, he decided to give this district another try, in which he deserves to have a turn of good luck.
