ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS.

G. W. (Te Puke). —What is the greatest distance done in New Zealand trotting inside the hour ? There is no record for New Zealand. The American record, which is disputed, 20 miles in 58mm 25sec, was done at Boston by Captain McGowan with at pacer at the pole in 1865, when watches were not so good as they are now. There are plenty to back time against the horse you mention that he does not do 17 miles within the hour. Wager.—l. The largest number of tickets sold on the totalisator in a trotting event in Auckland was 1,068 in the Onslow Trot Handicap on March sth inst. The next best record is 1,065 in the President’s Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s Summer Meeting, January 9, 1892 ; both were 10s. tickets. 2. The largest amount put through on one trotting race was .£1,039 in one pound tickets on the Auckland Trotting Cup on the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s Summer Meeting, December 30th, 1891.
