COURSING.

A large attendance of gentlemen interested in the resuscitation of coursing assembled at Mr. J. Gallagher’s British Hotel on Thursday evening last. Mr. Beehan was elected to the chair, and read a long list of promised subscriptions from a number of leading citizens and others, from which it was estimated that at least £2OO would be immediately forthcoming. The question of a course was fully discussed, and the cost of enclosing the Avondale course considered, it being estimated at £l5O. It was proposed and carried unanimously, “ That a

coursing club be formed, to be called the Auckland Coursing Club, the meetings to be held at Avondale.” The following gentlemen were appointed a provisional committee to bring up a report at the next meeting: —Messrs P. Quinlan (treasurer), Macready, M. Foley, J. Beehan, Henderson, Williams, Hunter, Fisher, McKee, Wakefield, Andrews, T Chermside, T. McEwin, and W. Wallace (secretary pro. tern.). The annual fee for membership was fixed at one guinea per annum, and it was decided to affiliate with the Dunedin Coursing Club. As this matter seems now to be taken up thoroughly in earnest, we may soon expect to see a revival of this exciting sport in Auckland with every apparent prospect of its being carried out more successfully than heretofore.
