DRURY RACING CLUB.

About 200 passengers proceeded from Auckland to Dfury on Monday by special train to attend the annual summer meeting of the Drury Racing Club, of which Mr. Daniel Maher is the honorary secretary. The weather was everything that could be desired, and there was between 500 and 600 people present. The totalisators were under the management of Messrs. Adams and Andrews, and they gave every satisfaction. Their record for the day— ios. for 10s. tickets—proves that they had a busy time of it. * There were seven events on the programme, the first being the Handicap Hurdle Race. Stockman was the only absentee. A good start was effected, and Satanella led past the stand. At the back of the course Tim took the lead, and maintained it till passing the stand the second time; then Tommy and Bryan O’Lynn

assumed command and raced for home, the latter eventually winning by a length, Miss Nellie third. Satanella and Tim ran off, and Nightcap baulked. The Flying Stakes followed, and after a furlong had been traversed Stamford went to the front and won comfortably by half a length, Bon Voyage second, Satanella third. There were only three starters for the Maiden Plate which was won by Jessica, followed by Mascotte and Kin.ross. The event of the day followed —the Drury Cup, if- miles. A poor field presented themselves (only three). Belmont made the running past the stand, after which Priscilla put in her claim and took the pride of place till nearly entering the straight; Stamford also putting in his claim. A great race all the way up the straight resulted in Stamford winning by a head from Belmont, Priscilla two or three lengths behind. The Novel Handicap was the fifth race, and likewise only produced three starters. Coquette and Little Raven made the running for half a mile, when Fusilier went up, but at the six furlongs fell back beaten, Coquette winning easily by two lengths from Little Raven. The Drury Racing Club Handicap produced five contestants. Priscilla and Jessica made all the running. The former came away when she liked, and won in a canter from Ika Vuka and Maire in that order, Bryan O’Lynn and Jessica being unplaced. The Stewards’ Handicap was again reduced to a trio, and resulted in a boil over, Belmont being made a strong favourite. Ika Vuka, however, downed him, Eric supplying the third place. The starting throughout the day was very good, and everything passed off satisfactorily. The visitors from Auckland got back to town about half-past seven p.m. A reference to our turf record column will give our readers every detail required. ■ *»
