The members of the Engineers, “O” Battery and “a” Battery paraded at the Drill Shed at 10 a.m. on Sunday last, and were marched to 8. Mary’s pro-Cathedral church, Parnell, to attend divine service, by invitation from Bishop Cowie—chaplain of the “ A’’ Battery. The muster of each company was very poor. Hunter’s Artillery Band under Drum Major Kearsley played several selections to and from the place of worship.

Jack Rae returned to Auckland by the S.S. “ Mararoa” on Tuesday last, bringing his wife and family with him.

Old Silvio is coming on very fast, and appears to improve with every gallop. * His fencing on. Saturday at Hamilton was quite up to his best style, and the horse received quite an ovation on returning to the saddling paddock after the race. By steeplechase day he should be still further improved, and more unlikely things may happen than that the little chestnut be returned the winner of the Auckland Summer Steeplechase. Clarion, who acte,d as runner-up to Leorina in the South Auckland Cup, and won the Tradesman’s Plate Handicap on Saturday at Hamilton, should make a useful handicap horse at upcountry meetings. He was not as fit as he could be made, and was ridden by a very inexperienced boy, who would have been more at home on a rocking horse, for once or twice he rolled about so much that it was not long odds against his falling off.
