Miss Cassy Corda: “You’ve broken my heart! ” Tom Blunt: “ Oh, well, accidents will happen 1 ” Kangaroos-are to be imported into the United States to provide fresh big game for sportsmen, now that the buffalo is almost extinct. A number of wealthy Americans propose to introduce the Kangaroosj at the beginning of the summer, and house them in the Yellowstone Park until they become acclimatised. The fasting men, who have lately interested Londoners, are quite put in the shade by an American fasting woman. Mrs., Wucheter, living near Allentown, Pennsylvania, has taken neither food nor water for 103 days. The Mikado of Japan’s favourite horse is an old native pony called “ Golden FlowerMountain ” (Kinkazan). Though fully twentytwo years of age, the pony carried its imperial master throughout the whole of the recent Japanese manoeuvres. An exciting whale-hunt took place in the Shetland Isles recently. A shoal of whales appeared off Hillswick, and were pursued with such energy that 160 were driven ashore or killed in deep water, whence they rose to the surface during the following day. The remedy is sometimes worse than the disease, and the Australians are beginning to doubt the wisdom of importing so many stoats, ferrets, and weazels to exterminate the rabbits. These creatures multiply most rapidly, and are said to have begun attacking children and lambs. A wedding in a balloon has lately been celebrated at Lowell, Massachusetts, U.S.A. The balloon was anchored to the ground for the ceremony, after which the bridal guests descended to terra firma, and the bride and bridegroom then sailed away for a honeymoon trip in the clouds. i Ostrich farming in South Australia is becoming a most profitable undertaking. One farm alone at Port Augusta contains 700 birds, worth and the yield of feathers season averages £2 per bird.
