Op war and pestilence I have already written^ the other of the three sore judgments famine, is still raging in India with increasing vehemence. Belief funds are badly wanted for the starving millions. This is a calamity which in our favoured laud we tind hard to understand, but it is none the less real in (ill its hideous details. Any assistance that can be sent will be gladly welcomed. Kipling to the rescue ! We could put up with another of those " worst verses he ever wrote," ii they possessed similar properties to the absent minded one.
