Miss Allenb Crater,
The coming of an almost purely American combination to New Zealand was anticipated with a great amount of interest and considerable curiosity. The result of the visit of Messrs. Hoyt and MoKee's " Trip to Chinatown" Company, which toured the
colony under the oegis of Messrs. Williamson and Musgrove, was highly satisfactory. In Auckland, where the tour commenced at a bad time, the enterprise was not rewarded by over lavish appreciation, but everywhere else the Company was received with great enthusiasm. Miss Allene Crater, the leading lady of the Company, sings well and acts with grace and vivacity. She possesses a great sense of humour, and brought out every bit of fun her parts in " A Trip to Chinatown," " A Stranger in New York," and "A Texas Steer" contained. There was much in the latter comedy not understood by the people of New Zealand, but the other two plays in the Company's repertoire were full of amusing nonsense, and had just a suspicion of naughtiness.
