June V. Social. The first of the series of winter socials, held in Holy Trinity Schoolroom last Tuesday evening, was only fairly well attended. The programme was in the capable hands of the Misses Dart and Misses Ria and Itta Macaliister. An appetising supper was handed round at the conclusion of the programme, and was much appreciated. The programme was as follows: —Pianoforte selections, Miss B. Stuart, Miss Chambers, and Miss Newman. The vocalists were Mrs Nicol, Mrs Jennings, Miss Tobbs, and Miss Cragg; the accompanists being Miss Chambers and Miss B. Stuart. Miss Tobbell also gave a. recitation, and a reading by Air J. 1,. Harwood on ‘'Huckleberry Finn” was one of the features of the evening. An autograph competition .was the cause of much amusement, Miss M. Newman eventually winning first place, the prize being a large box of chocolates. Golf. Contrary to expectations, the holiday on Tuesday l proved to be exceedingly good, as regards the weather. Only a few of the members of the Golf Club went out to the links. Among those present were: —Mrs Beswiek. Mrs Mattsen, Miss Seymour. Miss Riley, Miss Cragg, Miss Harwood, Messrs Riddel f Wright, Admore, and Madsen. Personal. ■ . Mr. and Mrs. W. are at present the guests of the Rev. T. J. and Mrs. Smith, • The Vicarage.’’ Mies H. Harris left last week for Wellington, where she will spend the Winter months. Mies Lorna Day arrived by the steamer from the West Coast last Saturday, where she has been spending a few weeks with her sister. During her stay here she is the guest of Mr. and Miss Greened!!, “Brooklyn.” Lady Stout (Wellington) was a passenger to Pieton by the Arahura last Saturday.
