AMID THE BEAUTIFUL SCENERY OF STEWART ISLAND-GLIMPSES ROUND GOLDEN BAY.
Stewart Kami, the most southern of the three islands of New Zealand, is noteworthy for its mountainous nature and grand and I eautlfnt scenery. Two typical glimpses at Golden Bay are shown In the above page. The Island was named after Captain Dugald Stuart, of the schooner Prince <rf Denmark, who sailed round in Isiin. It was formally taken possession of for Great Britain on June .’th, 1840, by Major Thomas Bun bury, of the BUth Regiment, but the Maori* held the land by oecunation until It was purrhaned In IRGi.
