HOW AN IRISH ELECTION IS RUN —CONSTABULARY GETTING READY FOR POSSIBLE TROUBLE.
The Incident shown occurred nt the by election for the Londonderry City sent, which was rendered vacant by the succession of the Marouis of Hamilton to the title of Duke of Abercorn. The poll occasioned a good deal of excitement, as the voting was very close, the Nationalist candidate beating his Unionist opponent by 57 votes. Large numbers of police were drafted into the town, and tin- photo, shows ollicers Inspecting the rilles of a detachment of lloyal Irish Constabulary. Inset is a poster which was displayed all over the town, showing the tension of public feeling, ami the measures which the authorities deemed necessary to prevent trouble.
