Ffebruary 28. At Home. On Friday afternoon Mr. and Airs. John Roberts gave a large “At Home” pt ' Lyttlebourne House 4 ' as- a farewell to their many friends before leaving-for England early in Alareh. A very large number were present, but the unfavourable weather conditions prevented the visitors spending the time in the lovelygrounds as had been intended. An excellent band was stationed in the verandah, outside the drawing-room. Mr. and Mrs. Roberts received their guests in the spacious hall. Notwithstanding the very large number present, there was ample room for all without the garden. Lovely flowers and handsome pot plants of every description deeorated the house, the" tables in the dining-room being exquisite, arranged with pale heliotrope scabia, pale pink sweet pea. and gypsophila. The hostess wore a handsome 'black gown, with touches of white lace, .and black toque with 'black and white feathers; Mrs. Hunter Weston (Timaru), charming dress of rose pink silk, with overskirt of chiffon with large brown check border, and black hat with pink flowers; Mrs. George Roberts looked very well in white embroidered cambric over silk, finished with a touch of yellow at the waist, Tuscan straw- hat trimmed with cream lace and pale yellow ribbon; Airs. Jim Roberts, greytweed tailor-made, and large blue hat; Mrs. Lindo Ferguson, rose .pink charmeuse, and large black picture hat with white feathers; Mrs. Melville Jameson .(Timaru). black satin costume, finished with pale grey ninon tunic, and black feathered hat; Airs. 'Riley, smart costume of navy blue silk trimmed with handsome guipure lace, and a touch of red at the waist, hat with lace and floral ribbons; Lady McLean, handsome jpale grey silk gown with lace, white furs, and grey toque with white feather and red rose; Lady Williams, mole-coloured doth tailor-made, and black hat; Miss (McLean, white silk, with deep band, and tunic of fine black lace, black lace 'bodice over white, and hat with touch of red; Airs. Dancing was in the drawing-room, bridge in the morning room, and supper in the din-ing-room, where the table was daintily decorated with sweet peas. Amongst those present were: Air. and Airs. On Saturday evening Mrs. Lindo Ferguson gave a small dance at “Transit House,” when the ballroom of the house was beautifully- decorated with greenery and ferns and festoons of art muslin. Roberts (Teviot), Mr. and Mrs. Acton-Adams, Air. and. Airs. Bond (Southland), Aliss Hosking, Aliss Rolleston, Alias (Sinclair Thomson, Aliss Snow, Aliss Backhouse, Miss Gordon, Aliss B. Wood (Christchurch), Air. Bullock, Air. Hunter, Air. Sise, and a few others. Personal. Airs. Carlton AVilliams (Hawke’s Bay) is in town for her sister-in-law, Aliss Violet Williams, who is to be married on Tuesday- to Air. Birch. Air. and Airs.
