February 21. The Domain Fete. The Domain fete was held yesterday (Thursday, February 20), and proved to be a great success. Consequently the funds for the upkeep and improvements of the public gardens (where the fete was held) should be largely augmented. All kinds of competitions, shows, and a variety of amusements and attractions were provided, in addition to the afternoon tea tents and numerous stalls, which were presided over by the following ladies, each assisted by a bevy of girls, all of whom did excellent work. The flower stall, which was most artistically arranged with beautiful palms, foliage, and flowering pot plants of all descriptions, was in charge of Mrs. Holland

(Mayoress of Christehureh), Mrs. 11. R. Smith, and Mrs. J. 8. Neville; Mrs. W. If. Cooper, sweet stall; Mesdames T. L. Cowlishaw, C. W. Reid, and Miss MurrayAynsley, ice cream; Mrs. T. E. Taylor, basket stall; Miss 11. M. Kent, children’s toys; Mrs. J. J. Collins, afternoon tea tent; Madame Heliere, cup reader; several lady students presided over the Canterbury College tea stall; Mrs. B. Ballin, variety stall; Miss Thurston, post card stall; Mrs. G. G. Stead, produce stall; Mrs. Vernon nad charge of the putting greens;" comic post card stall,, members of the Canterbury Centre New Zealand Swimming Association, under Mr. G. Rich; Mr. F. C. Cooper presided over the bachelors’ afternoon tea stall. The baby show was under the direction of Mesdames Maitland and Verner, Dr Maitland and Mr. E. T. Harper. The day, which was gloriously line (luring the morning, proved dull and cloudy during the afternoon, and later on came very heavy rain. A Bridge Party. A delightful bridge party was given by Mrs. C. Reid at Merivale on Saturday evening. The players were: Mrs. Wardrop (Sydney), Mrs. George Gould, Mrs. and Miss Boyle, Mrs. J. Turnbull, Mrs. T. L. Cowlishaw, Miss Murray-Aynsley, Misses Humphreys (2), Wilson. Denniston, and Lee. Tennis Hostesses. The tennis hostesses this week were: Mrs. Blunt (Merivale), Misses Humphreys (Fendalton), Mrs. M. Campbell (Avonside), Mrs. Moore (St. Alban’s), Miss Wilding (Opawn), Miss Wood (Christchurch).

At the Theatre Royal. At the Theatre Royal Williamson’s Comic Opera Company are having an excellent season. Amongst their patroiH I have noticed: Mrs. W. Stringer, Mrs. Kohn, Mr. and Mrs. G. Great preparations are being made by the members of the Comic Opera Company for a grand carnival and fete, to be hold next Monday at Lancaster Park, which they have most generously taken in hand for the. benefit of the South Pole Disaster Fund. Mr. Holland (Mayor of Christchurch) has requested the citizens to close their shops on the afternoon of that day, instead of on the usual Thursday weekly holiday. Given line weather the fete should be a most successful and enjoyable affair. Personal. Mrs. and Miss Phillips (The Point), are staying in Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Congreve (Africa) aro the guests of Mrs. Rich, Worcester Street, Christehureh.

Mrs. Townend (Christchurch), with JCady Campbell (England), an I Miss Tabart (Christchurch), are staying at Timaru. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rhodes [(Christchurch) are also staying there. Miss M.
