February 14. A Golf Party. Mrs. Donald gave a golf party at the Shirlev links on Friday in honour of Alura Manifold, of Melbourne, who is paying her a visit, and as a farewell to Miss Rita Wilson, who leaves for England next month. The weather being very warm. Airs. Donald decided to have tea early in the afternoon in the tearoom and on the verandah, consequently play did not begin till the heat of the day was over. A medal round wan played, Alias Harley handing in the bent score. Those presena were: Airs and Miss Murray-Aynaley, Mrs Cripps. Mrs H. 11. Louglman, Mrs. Todhunter, Airs. Leonard Harley, Airs. P. Morton, Aliases Anderson, Kidston, Elworthy, Hodges, Symons, and Trolove. A Musical Afternoon Airs. Gower-Burna gave a musical afternoon at her residence, Kilmore Street, in honour of Mra. Sise (Dunedin). Several songs were sung by Mra. Gower-Burns and Mrs. Loughnan. Accompaniments and pianoforte solos were played by Airs. Wilding. A delicious tea was served, and a most enjoyable afternoon passed all too quickly. Those present were: Airs. Sise, Mra. C. Reid, Mrs. and Miss Wilding, Mr. and Mirfs Alolineaux, Airs. Stead. Mrs. H. 11. Loughnan, Alra. Vernon, Mrs. J. Anderson, Alra. Alorris, Airs. Rice, and Airs. Beals, A Social Gathering. A social gathering took place cn< Thun,day afternoon at Bishopseourt to welcome Bxshop Wood, of Melanesia. 'The reception was held in the garden, where Airs. Julius stood and received her guests. A delightful garden party it would have been but for the fact of the memorial service for t’aptain Scott and party being hold in the Cathedral directly after the reception. Naturally a gloom and sadne.s li:-,s been cast over everyone by the terrible disaster. Airs. Julius and many of the ladies present wore complimentary mourning or half mourning

The memorial service at the Cathedral was conducted by Minor Canon Jones and his Lordship Bishop Julius. The building was filled to overflowing, several persons standing during the entire service, which was a most solemn and impressive one. The choir and congregation joined in singing the 'hymns. Dr. Bradshaw played Alendelsuohn’s “Funeral Alareh” at the opening of the services and “The Dead March” in “Saul” at its close, the congregation standing. No address was given. King and family, who have been spending some weeks in I hristc'hur.h, have returned to Picton. Aliss N. Campbell (Avonside) is the guest of Airs/ Killian at Clent Hills. Aliss Atanifold (Melbourne) is staying with friends in Christchurch. Air. and Airs. Richmond Fell (Nelson) spent a few days in Christchurch en route to Afount Cook. Airs- E. A. Wilson is staying with Airs. J. J. Kinsey at Clifton, Sumner. Air. and Airs. George E. Rhodes, who have been residing at Elmwood, (Christchurch) for some months, have returned to Aleadowbank. Aliss O’Brien Hodge (England) is the guest of Alra. Elworthy (Merivale), Christchurch. Airs, and Alins Barnett have returned to Christchurch from a visit to England.
