DUNEDIN.

February 7th. Vice-regal Visit. •His Excellency the Governor, Lady Liverpool, and Miss Foljambe were guests of Dr and Mrs Lindo Ferguson during their two days’ stay in Dunedin. On Thursday evening Dr and Mrs Lindo Ferguson gave a dinner party in honour of their guests, those present being his Excellency the Governor and Lady Liverpool, Miss Foljambe, Sir Joshua and Lady Williams, Mns Grant, Mrs Honking, Dr and Mrs Stanley Batchelor, Mr Gerald Ferguson, Captain

On Friday evening Miss Dolly Allen gave a delightful little dance at Arawa as a farewell to her friend, Miss Violet Williams, who is to be married immediately. Mies Allen received her guests in the drawing-room, and the diningroom was used for dancing, whilst supper was served in the morning-room. About 40 were present, amongst whom were: Miss Allen, Rev. Charles Allen, Mr John Allen, Mies Violet Williams, Mr Birch, Captain and Mrs Moore, Mrs Marshall, Dr and Mrs Stanley Batchelor, Miss Agnes Mill (Port Chalmers), Mr and Miss Buckland (Waikouaiti), Mies Vera Chapman (Wellington), Mrs E. and Miss Theomin, Miss Hart, the Mieses 'Woodhouse, Mr George McLean, Mr H. Law, Mr and Mies Sise, Miss Holdsworth, Dr Fitchett. Airs Donaldson, Mies Backhouse (Sydney), Miss Gould, Air B. Bridgeman, Air J. Cook, Mr Orbell, etc. Miss Allen wore a fovely white drees; Miss Violet Williams, pink satin frock veiled in ninon; Miss Vera Chapman, pale grey dress; Airs Grant wore white; Mrs Aloore, black velvet costume; Mies Gould, cream silk and ninon; Alies Constance Williams, black satin and lace; Aire Buckland, pale grey silk and ninon overdress; Mies Buckland, pale pink frock; Airs Marshall wore bright emerald green and black.

Musical Party. On Monday evening Mns Ogston gave a delightful little musical party, when there was some unusually good music. The guests of honour were Mr and Mrs Stevens (.Wellington). Mrs Stevens was Mies Ina Gow, and was married a few weeks ago. There were present: Dr and Airs Ogston, Miss Correen Ogston, Mr ami Airs Oldham, Mr and Airs C. Turnbull. Afr Hunter, Airs Ernest Williams, the Rev. C. Allen. Mies Dolly Allen, Alias Vera Chapman (Wellington), and Miss Ulrich.

Afternoon Tea. On Tuesday afternoon Mrs du Frert Fenwick gave a small tea at her pretty residence at St. Clair, when about sixteen ladies were present. Several ladies of the “Get-Rich-Quick Wallingford” Company” were present, in whose honour the party was given. During the afternoon Miss Brenda Stock (who returns to Auckland this week), eung several times, delighting her audience. Besides the hostess there were present: Lady and Mies (Williams, Mrs Lindo Ferguson, Mrs Greig, Miss Smeaton, Mrs Moore, Mrs Falla, Miss Reynolds, Mrs Hart, Alies Marjorie Hart, Mrs Baruch (Melb.), and Mrs Green. Personal. Mr Jack Roberts (Selkirk, Scotland), after inn absence of 17 years, has arrived for a few weeks’ visit to his parents, Mr and Mrs John Roberts, and is staying at Littlebourne House. Mrs Kinsey (Christchurch) is staying with her daughter, Mns M. A. Moore. Professor and Mrs Malcolm have returned from their honeymoon, and are settled in their home in Royal Terrace. Sir James Mills, his daughter, Mrs Berwick (Christchurch), Mies Foljambe, and Miss Dora Williams have gone to Milford Sound, and intend walking across the track.

Colonel Logan (Auckland), who has been in town with Ills mother at Leith House, has returned to Auckland. Mr and Mrs George Stewart have returned from their .motor trip to the southern lakes, and passed through Dunedin this week on their way to “Westwood,” Kelso. Mies Vera Chapman is visiting Mies Allen at “Arawa” at present. Air and Airs Reynolds Denniston, who have been in Dunedin for some weeks, left by the Manuka for Sydney. Afr Denniston is very much better in health since his arrival in New Zealand. Miss Webster returns this week from Canterbury, where she has been visiting Mrs Chaffer.
