TWO NOTABLE ADDITIONS TO THE MUNICIPAL ART GALLERY.
Two new pictures will be added to the Auckland Art Gallery on the occasion of its reopening on January 25. Mr. David Goldie presented the large canvas “(’jurist in the Temple.” the work of his son, Mr. (’. F. Goldie. The second picture is Mr. Kenneth Watkins’ “The Legend,** which has b»en given by Messrs. S. Vaile and 'Sons. In the upper half of the above page is a reproduction of “The Legend,” in which Mr. Watkins has treated the story of the Maori’s advent in an idyllic manner, and leprosents the voyagers arriving at the slides of New Zealand in midsummer, with the pohutukawa in full bloom and the s'a sleeping under cloudless skies. The bottom half of the page depicts Mr. Goldie's canvas, “Christ in the Temple.” It is a large picture, measuring 72in by 51 hi. and Is without question tiie flnest figure painting that hi»s ever been done in New Zealand.
