The High Commissioner spoke of the offers of battleships. and said the colonies meant these gifts to be supplementary. Until they were more closely in touch and in conference with the Imperial authorities their offers must be so regarded. There was a closer drawing together, and he was sure that the statesmen of the Empire would be equal to the task that would be placed upon their sholders. There were great difficulties, but wHien ihey werp more closely drawn together we would find the colonies would be prepared to share with us any Imperial responsibilities. They must stand together. and if they stood together they would be powerfill for peace.
