November 0. Musical Recital. An enjoyable concert was given in the •School of Music by Aliss Thelma Petersen, who was assisted by several Nelson muisiciane. Messrs. T. Houlker and A. Ji. Bunny contributed songs while two pianoforte items by Aliss Alina AA’-ard greatly added to the enjoyment of those present. A string quartet, composed of Aliss Alary Ward, Ali. I Alina AVard, and Alessrs. AV. T. AVard and J. E. Allen, also played very pleasingly. Among those present were: The Alayor and Alayoress, Afesdames Mules, F. Richmond, Squires, Houlker, Coote, S. A. Opening of the Rowing Season. The Nelson Rowing Club had the best of weather and a smooth high tide for the opening of their season on Saturday afternoon. The opening speech was made by the club president, Air. E. S. Cresowell, and during the afternoon the procession of boats and motor laum-hes and the usual harbour excursions were made. Afternoon tea was provided by the wife of the president. Mrs. E. S. Crerswell, who was assisted by Mrs.

Reeves, Aliss Cresswell (Christehureh), Ali-s Coster, Miss Houlker, Aliss Maginnity, Miss Spear, Alisses Hair (2), Misses Rogers (2), Misses Izard (2), Alisses Cresswell (2), Miss Lewis, Aliss Clark, Miss Hayes, Aliss Hamilton, and Miss Robison. Ths long tables were beautifully decorated with pink roses and wistaria, and the Garrison Band played during the afte’rnoon.

Sale of Work. The annual sale of work in connection with the Christ Church and All Saints’ •Sowers’ Band was held in the Shelborme Street school, and opened by Bishop Sadlier. The great attraction of the sale was the curiosity shop. In it were displayed many quaint curios and models, representing Japanese, Chinese and African life, the showmen being attired in the costume of the country they represented. The following were the stall holders:—Sweet stall: Misses Hood, Vining and Trott; cake stall; Misses Harley and Grace; produce stall: Mesdames Hood and Giblin; book stall: Alisses Rayner and Tanner; work stall: Airs. Lucas, Aliases Dement, Johnson and Booth; apron and bag stall: Misses Kerr, Thompson and McLaren; Oriental stall: Alisses Burnett, Birke and Kearns; doll stall: Alisses Coote, Smith and AA niterburn; bran pie: Misses Kearns and Andrew; button-hole stall: Misses Harley and Busch; afternoon tea: Airs. Smallbone, Alisses Kempthorne, Bolton. Afoore, and Karsten.
