August 31, Children’s Party. An afternoon party for small children accompanied by their mothers was given on Thursday by Airs. H. 11. Loughnan, at her residence, “Avonside,” in honour of her little girl's birthday. The guests included: Mrs. Hugh Reeves and her children; Airs. W. Day and children? Airs. Irving and ■children, Mrs. Stevenson and daughter, Mrs. Cowlishaw and son, Mrs. Cooper and daughter, Mrs. Bristed and daughter, Airs. Leonard Clark and son, Airs. Wynn-Williams and children, Airs. Guy Pascoe and daughter, Mrs. Cox: and children, Aliases Campbell and R. Harper, Alias Bunny and Miss Cuthbert. Tea was served in the diningroom, and very quaint and funny the tiny guests looked, for they had been provided with all sorts of garments in which to “dress up” in, greatly to their delight. All sorts of indoor games were ■played. Musical Afternoon. IA musical afternoon was given by Mrs. Graham, Papanui Hoad, Merivale, on Thursday. The hostess wore a green crepe-de-ehine, and her daughter, Mrs. Le Cren (Timaru), was in pale blue crepe, with bands of insertion. Songs were sung by Airs. Be Cren and Miss Parsons. Airs. P. On Friday afternoon the Aliases De-vcnish-Aleares, who are staying at Clifton, Sumner, gave a charming musical ■party. 'Songs were sung by Airs. J. 0. Palmers and Aliss Daisy Aleares, Miss Al. Ollivier played the piano, and Miss Doris Aleares the violoncello. Those present were: Airs. Dester, Airs. J. Palmer, Airs. George Merton, Mrs. Courage, Airs. Nedwill, Airs. T. Barker, Mrs. Beals, Airs. Rice, Airs. Harper, Aliss Nancarrow, and the Alisses Butterworth. Other hostesses of the week were: Airs. Hurst Seagcr (Hillhurst), Cashmere, and Airs. Farr (Fendalton), who gave an afternoon tea yesterday (Thursday), August 30th. Concert. The Orchestral Society’s concert took place last night in the Theatre Royal, and was very largely attended. The orchestral numbers were, in most cases, admirably rendered. The soloists were Air. J. Cox and Air. Leonard Barnes. Airs. Twyneham was leader of the orchestra, and Air. Alfred Bunz conductor and accompanist. Amongst the audience were: Airs. Donald (Christchurch) have gone to 'Nelson for the New Zealand golf championship. Air. and Airs. Hamish Ale Lean, who spent a short time in Christchurch, have returned to Alount Hutt. Aliss ‘N. Campbell (Christchurch) is staying with friends in Greymouth. Mrs. Killian (Went Hills) is slaying in Sumner. Airs. J. Buckley (Oamaru) is in Sumner. •Mr. and Airs. Waleot Wood returned to Christchurch last week from the North Island. Air. mid Airs. R. Allan and Miss Ogle have returned to Christchurch from Honolulu. Air. mid Mrs. AL Harris (<lhiislvhureh) have returned from Sydney. Aliss Thurston (Christchurch) is visiting Wanganui. Mrs. B. Harrison (Nelson) is slaying with friends in Christchurch.
