August 3. A Musical Party. On Thursday, Mrs. Pyne gave a large musical afternoon to introduce Miss Petersen, a young singer vf exceptional promise, who will be sent Home to complete her training. Other performers were Miss Guthrie, Miss Gibson, Miss Gould, Miss B. Pyne, and Miss Morton. Mrs. Pyne wore a gown of mauve Shantung, relieved with white; Miss Pyne, dark blue serge skirt aud charming ■tucked blouse of cream ninon; Miss B. ■Pyne, dark blue ninon blouse over white, and relieved with gold, -dark blue serge skirt; Miss Mona Pyne, white spotted, silk frock; Miss Jocelyn Pyne, cream satin frock. Others present were: Mesdames Denniston, G. Rhodes, Stead, Wilding, G. Helanore, Cracroft Wilson, 11. Wood, A. Reeves, A. Harper, Ilolleston, Teschemaker, R Macdonald. Rice, Beals, (A. Murray-Aynsley, F. Courage, H. Reeves, E. Palmer, Maling, Godby, W. Wood, Burns, Atkinson, Blackburn, Bloxain, Wilkin, Wigraiu, J. Vernon, Gibson, G. Merton, Stevenson, Lord, Campbell, Hill, W. Helmore, W. Day, Cox, Hanmer, Loughman, Bowden, Sinclair Thomson, C. Nedwill, Stringer, Thomas, J. Palmer, Jennings, H. Acland, Misses Reeves, Gerard, Turnbull, Hennah, Cowlishaw, Burns, Hanmer, Craeroft-Wilson, Prins (2), Wilkin, Harley, Morton (2), Wood, Merton, Denniston, Macdonald, Jennings, Tabart (2), Anderson, Thurston, Ross, Reece. Children's Party. A small children’s party was given by Mrs. J. Williams (Papanui Road) on .Saturday afternoon, in honour of her little son’s first birthday. The weather was very cold and wet, but the tiny guests were not concerned about it, and those assembled spent a happy time. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Balfour Kinnear, who have been spending a few weeks in Christchurch; returned North on Saturday. Sir. and Mrs. Bethell (Pahu Pastures) have been staying with Mrs. Pyne, Bealey Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. L. Rutherford (Macdonald Downs) returned to Christchurch from Sydney on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ensor "(’’White Rock”), who have been spending some time in Sydney, have returned to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Killian, who have been staying in Christchurch, have returned to Cient Hills.. Mrs. C. Clark (Christchurch) is staying at Sumner. Mrs. Hugh Reeves (Christchurch T and her family are - spending a few weeks in Christchurch. Dr. and Miss Nedwill (Christchurch) are staying at Stunner. Miss Tripp (Geraldine) is in Christchurch.
Mrs. E. C. StuJholme (Waimate) was in Christchurch during the week. Mrs. Savill (Christehurch) is visiting the North Island.
