July 13. Surprise Party. On Thursday evening a party of over thirty friends gave Miss Gwynneth, of “The Bungalow,” a surprise party, in honour of her having enlarged the drawing room. The prime movers in the affair were: Mesdames Couper, Nicoll, E. Roberts and Miss Wells. Several tables were arranged for progressive bridge, and a very jolly evening was spent, the prizes being won by Miss 0. Willis and Mr- Hindmarsh. A very dainty supper was provided by the visitors. Some very pretty frocks were worn. Mrs. Marshall was in a lovely frock of cream satin, with panels of floral silk, with a deep hem of fawn satin, and tunic of cream silk tosca net, the same trimming the bodice; Mrs. Nicoll wore a moet becoming frock of white satin, with tunic of gold beaded ninon and gold embroidery outlining the decolletage, and large bunch of violets in her belt; Mrs. Fraser, a dainty frock of pink satin, draped with pale blue

Wells, a becoming frock of white satin charmeuse, with tunic of ninon, edged with silver fringe, and pretty pale pink dewdrop scarf; Mrs. Merideth, a stylish frock of emerald green velvet, trimmed with black; Miss C. Willis, a graceful gown of black net, spangled with silver; Mrs. Couper, in a smart black crepe de chine gown, the decolletage outlined with Oriental trimming; Miss Wells, "a dainty frock of lemon coloured ninon over old rose, and trimmed with Oriental trimming in the same tones; Mrs. Mervyn Wells, white satin charmeuse, the bodice trimmed with pearl trimming, and white scarf; Miss Attfield, a dainty frock of white satin; Miss Hill, a becoming frock of pale pink crepe, piped with claret coloured velvet; Mrs. Roberts, black satin charmeuse, bodice handsomely trimmed with jet, and tucker of white chiffon, and a bunch of violets on corsage; Miss Gwynneth, black satin and net gown; Miss Brooks, white silk frock, trimmed with silver; Miss Middleton looked pretty in rose pink silk; Mrs- Gibbons, a lovely frock of Nattier blue ninon, covered with beads the same shade, and made over a golden russet silk; Miss Horreil, blaek silk gown, with cream guimpe and sleeves, and black pinon scarf; Miss Jay, a frock of Royal blue silk, trimmed with black silk. The men were: Messrs. Caldwell, Hammond, Meredith, Bown, Wells, Fraser, Marshall, Willis, Middleton, Palmer, Mortimer-Jones, Hindmarsh. Golfers. On Tuesday a party of thirteen Hamilton lady golfers arrived by the 11.30 a.m. train in Cambridge, where they were met by a brake provided by the local Club, and driven out to the links. They had invited Mrs. Nicoll and Miss Wells to join them, and a most enjoyable day was spent on the links. They brought their lunch and afternoon tea with them, and returned home by the train in the evening. They have invited a party of lady golfers from the local Club to go through on Wednesday, and pay a return visit, which they intend doing, weather permitting.
