At the Shirley Links on Saturday, although the day was a cold one, numbers of interested golfers watched the final of the men’s championship. Amongst the spectators were: Mr and Airs W. Concert. The Christchurch Musical Union gave the first concert of this season in His Alajesty’s Theatre on Tuesday evening, ■when Sullivan’s “Martyr of Antioch” was most successfully produced. The soloists were: Miss Rita Lyons. Miss Allison, Air Frank Graham, Mr Charles Clarkson (Wellington) and Mr E. J. Johnson. This was the final concert under the conduetorship of Dr. Bradshaw. Miss Rita Lyons wore a graceful and becoming gown of soft white satin, and she was the recipient of three beautiful bouquets. Aliss Allison wore a pretty frock of white silk, with large gold buckle ornaments. Amongst the audience were Airs 11. H. Loughnan, Mrs Gower Burns, Aliss Burns, Alisses Robinson (2), Air and Airs De Renzi Harman. Aliss Hilda Way, Mrs Ballin, Airs Wilks, Airs Mcßeth, Airs Lord, Airs Fenwick, Mrs D. Afternoon Tea. Aliss Guthrie (Worcester Street) gave an afternoon tea on Thursday in honour of Aliss Murchison (Lake Coleridge). The amusement provided was a celebrity competition, in which four competitors came equal,, but eventually Miss Pollen carried off the prize. The guests included: Airs J. Guthrie, Alisses Alurchison, Broderick, Hay, G. Alerton, S. Murray, Barnes (2), Wilson (2), Duncan, Milne, Pollen, Warren, Park, Thomas and Westenra. Tea Party. On the same afternoon a tea party was given by Mrs J. Turnbull (Fendalton). Cooper has returned to Christchurch from Wellington, where she has Teen spending some weeks. Mrs Beswiek (Carlton-sireet, Christchurch) left last week for California, where she will spend tire winter months. Air and Airs Alacfarlane (Coldstream) and Airs and Aliss Norah Holmes (Knocklynn) have left Christchurch for a visit to Sydney. Miss Anderson (Opawa, Christchurch) is staying in Wellington. Miss S. Abraham (Palmerston North) is the guest of Mrs Denniston, Rolles-ton-avenne. Aliss Al. Ollivier has returned to Christchurch from a lengthened stay in the North Island. Miss Reeves (Christchurch) is staying with Aliss Johnston, at Wellington. Miss Toeswill, who has been visiting in Nelson, has returned to Christchurch. Miss Rhodes (Timaru) is in Christchurch. Aliss Jamison (Christchurch) is staying with friends in Gisborne. Mrs E. V. Palmer (Gisborne) is spending some weeks in Christchurch. ■Mrs George Way and Miss: Harris (Christchurch) are staying in Napier. Mrs Alec Holmes (Rakaia) is visiting her’friends in Napier. Mi’ and Airs Arnold Wall (Christchurch) are staying in South Canterbury for a few weeks. Airs G. Fairhurst has returned to Christchurch from a visit to the North Island. Mr and Airs J. D. Hall (Christchurch) left for Wellington on Thursday, June 28th.
