April 26. Afteraaon Tea. An afternoon tea was given on Wednesday by Airs. G. G. Stead at Slrowan Park in honour of Mrs. John Roberts (Dunedin), who is making .a short- stay in Christchurch. Airs. Stead wore a gown of pale grey crepe de chine, bordered with fringe; Airs. Roberts, handsome gown of blaek silk, relieved with cream lace; Airs. Gower Burns, blue coat and skirt, small black hat relieved with green; Alisses Burns (2), blue costumes. and blue hats to match; Airs. Beals, tailor-made costume of flecked -doth, brown felt hat: Airs. Wilding, grev tweed coat and skirt, small Tuscan hat trimmed with black: Airs. Molineaux. handsome gown of black silk, black hat: Mis- Alolineaux. grey cloth gown, with toque to match of velvet and cloth: Airs. J. Palmer, bright blue satin coat and skirt, emerald green velvet toque; Mrs. W. Wood, greytweed coat and skirt, black and green hat: Aliss Wood, blue serge coat and skirt, black beaver hat with white mount: Airs. G. Merton, black cloth gown, blaek hat with blue feathers: Miss Merton, dark blue serge coat and skirt, black hat with wings; Airs. Godby, violet cloth coat and skirt, faced with black, violet velvet hat: Alias Reeve-, blue tweed coat and skirt, faced with pale blue velvet toque; Aliss R. Last week the students of Canterbury College gave a dance in the college hall, which was largely attended and a great success. Airs. George Rhodes (Aleadowbank) and Aliss Mary Tabart left Christchurch on Wednesday for the North Island. Lady Clifford and the Misses Clifford (Christchurch) are spending a few days in Wellington. Aliss Bowden and Miss B. Pyne (Christchurch) are the guests of Mrs. Sinclair Thomson, at Woodbury. Airs, and Miss Pyne (Christchurch) are visiting Wellington. Aliss Burne- (Wellington) is the guest of Airs. Albeit, at "Mill House,” Riecarton. Airs. Lyndon (Australia) is paying a visit to Mrs. Beswick (Meriva'e). Mrs. Nanearrow and Airs. A. C. Wilson are the guests of Airs. Alt-Lean (Aft. Hutt). Miss Royce, who hqs been staying with Airs. C. Reid (Merivale), has returned to Dunedin. Air. and Airs. Andrew Anderson, ”Opawa,” who have la-en travelling in Egypt and England, hive returned to ( hristchurch. Air., Airs, and the Misses Wells (Amberley) have left for England. Miss G. Tripp leaves Christchurch next week for a lengthened visit to England and Africa. Miss Denshire (A-hburton) is staying with friends in Christchurch.
